Research background
Glutathione is a tripeptide of glutamic acid, cysteine and glycine, and is the most abundant intracellular antioxidant in mammalian cells. Its reactive thiol group — supplied by the cysteine residue — is what allows it to participate in redox reactions. It is used as a standard reference compound in oxidative-stress and detoxification research, and in studies of the glutathione-to-oxidised-glutathione ratio as a marker of cellular redox state. Its biochemistry is exceptionally well characterised, which is precisely why it serves as a comparator rather than a novel research subject. Research Use Only. Not for human or veterinary use.
Supplied as a lyophilised powder for laboratory research use only. Any context described above refers to published preclinical or in-vitro research — not to human or veterinary use.
